NASCAR in Indianapolis results: Tyler Riddick takes checkered flag at Verizon 200 idiot at Brickyard

Brickyard has a certain charm to it. And on Sunday, Tyler Riddick got a chance to feel this magic firsthand.

Driver Richard Childress Racing took the checkered flag in the Verizon 200 on Sunday at Brickyard, cementing his place as one of NASCAR’s hottest commodities.

It wasn’t easy for Riddick. It was an awkward day on the track, with Turn 1 proving particularly choppy for the drivers.

There has never been a moment quite as shocking as the collision between Kyle Larson and Ty Dillon on lap 61. Larson appeared to have had a brake failure as he turned the corner and crashed into Dillon’s side. Both drivers escaped the wreck unharmed, although it could have been much worse.

It was another series of warning flags that pushed the race into overtime. And it was there that Riddick, who took first during Saturday’s qualifiers, strutted his stuff.

Riddick finished the race in the last two laps. But it wasn’t certain that Reddick would take the cake on Sunday. Not when Ross Chastain was racing.

Chastain, who started the race in 21st place, tried to sneak in overtime. With the four-car track wide approaching Turn 1, Chastain made a daring move, rolling across the access road to take the lead from Reddick.

He almost got away with it…until he didn’t. Ultimately, the Trackhouse Racing star was penalized for his offense, but not before Reddick took the lead en route to his second Cup Series win in his career.

That would be good for the 26-year-old rising star.

5:47 PM: Riddick takes the checkered flag! He defeats Chastain, who made an illegal move to get close to Reddick! Incredible stuff in overtime!

5:46 pm: Riddick takes the lead! Chastain is in second place and Cendric is in third place! What a race this was!

5:45 pm: Chastity with a wild movement! He went off track, using the Offset Road after missing Turn 1 to take the lead! Incredible things.

5:37 pm: Race #5 restarted and now we’re heading to overtime. It’s getting so much fun now…

5:07 pm: Reddick controls 15 laps to go. He was followed by Blaney, Elliot, Alminger, and Byron.

Allmendinger complained about the heat in the car. He won the Xfinity race at Brickyard yesterday, but the track temperatures are a bit trickier this time. It’s still holding strong, though.

5:05 pm: Another collision this time between Harvick and Bowman! Both are able to get away, but Harvick’s car took significant damage to the rear. It looks like he will definitely need a win in the next few weeks to secure his place in the playoffs.

5:02 pm: The race replay sees Tyler Riddick take the lead. Interestingly enough, however, Allmendinger is the best in the mix.

Bale lost a lot of ground, dropping a few spaces to fall behind the likes of Blaney, Allmendinger and Chase Elliott.

4:51 pm: Massive collision between Kyle Larson and Ty Dillon! Larson tried to make a corner and crashed into Dillon’s car. Lots of damage to Larson and Dillon’s car, but both drivers are fine.

It could have been much worse.

4:46 pm: Todd Gilliland is now on top. The 22-year-old is leading a Cup racing series for the first time in his career. Solid stuff for a young potential person who has some serious potential.

4:39 pm: Ryan Blaney booths on pit road! He appears to have lost about a second in the hole; Who knows how much time was lost on the track.

Allmendinger is ahead on lap 55. It seems unlikely that he will win given his fuel situation, but he stays in the race nonetheless.

4:36 pm: Scratch it! Just as he did earlier, Riddick headed to the pothole as well. He has less gas to fill up than Bell, which means he got off the blocks before Bell. Reddick appears to be in a great position to take the checkered flag at The Brickyard.

4:34 pm: And Riddick takes the lead! He made an aggressive move to pass Bill on lap 51. Bale is heading into pit road now, which means Reddick will have a bit more breathing room now.

4:31 pm: Bale held onto a slight lead over Reddick with 34 laps to go. Chess continues at the top, where drivers will have to figure out the correct point to dig and make sure they have enough fuel to get through the line.

Looks like Bill has found the formula so far. But with so many laps left, it will just be a question of when, not whether Bale has to dig in.

4:22 pm: Halfway through the race, Bill, Wallace, and Reddick were in the top three. Wallace could really use the victory and cement his place in the Cup Series playoffs. He’s right in the mix now.

4:18 pm: The third stage has begun! Such a crowded field, especially while racing resumes.

4:06 pm: It’s a second stage win for Christopher Bell, and the first win of his career! Followed by Kyle Bush and Bubba Wallace.

However, it was clear that the standout drivers in the second stage were Blaney and Byron.

4:03 pm: Blaney finally pulls out the pit way on lap 34. Riddick matched his move and was able to get out in front as Blaney not only had to replace his tires, but also refilled the fuel.

Christopher Bell holds the pole in two laps to go into stage two. He’s very seven seconds ahead of Kyle Busch and it looks like his crew chief is pushing Bill to save gas, go up to the podium and get into a 10-12 lap hole in the stage. 3.

3:58 pm: And Blaney seems to have won the battle of attrition! Byron pulls into a pit road after he grabs a Penske team driver hard. Impressive display by the drivers so far, their tires doing well on The Brickyard as we approach the halfway point of the race.

3:56 pm: It’s a real chess match between Blaney and Byron. During 29 laps, neither Blaney nor Byron has swung so far. Looks like they’re trying to get out of today’s race in just two stops.

Blaney with a slight edge at the moment.

3:54 pm: Another roll, another loss of control; This time, it’s AJ Allmendinger, who ends up in the gravel. It’s been a busy day so far at The Brickyard.

3:50 pm: Kyle Larson and Eric Almerola headed down a pit road after a minor collision between their cars. It looks like Larson suffered some damage to his right suspension. It’s been a bumpy ride for most of the contestants who haven’t been invited to Ryan Blaney yet.

Blaney is about half a second ahead of William Byron on lap 27.

3:46 pm: Alex Bowman headed into a pit road after taking some damage to his front left tire. Looks like he blew out his tire in the midst of all the chaos that started in Turn 1. Sticky stuff so far.

3:42 pm: Phase 2 begins and Ryan Blaney leads the way! Six wide in the lane.

Kevin Harvick broke up after hitting a handful of cars in an attempt to adjust to one of the earlier bends of the track. It was just that kind of race.

3:30 pm: And that’s a first-stage victory for Chase Briscoe! His third stage victory in his career – all three have come this season.

As we wrap up stage one, it’s important to think about how excited Turn 1 will be for the racers. Chase Elliott, leader of the Cup series, got off the corner, doing a full 360 early on during the first few laps of the race. It will certainly be interesting to see how well the drivers can adapt to the conditions as the race continues.

3:28 pm: You’re nearing the end of Stage 1 and Chase Briscoe is leading the pack. He has a comfortable four-second advantage over Penske’s Ryan Blaney and looks set to take the green flag.

3:26 pm: Chris Bucher raced down a pit stop but his car started to catch fire. Something to look for moving forward.

3:17 pm: Lots of slip and slide early in the race. The sunny conditions at The Brickyard make things lively — and challenging for drivers. Denny Hamlin sits 33rd, while Ross Chastain sits on the grass.

The broadcast stated that the track was 25 degrees hotter than it was in yesterday’s qualifiers. Contestants will take some time to adapt.

3:12 pm: A frantic start in Brickyard! Tyler Reddick has a fairly comfortable 2.5-second edge from Austin Cindric. With only 82 laps, the big lead could be more difficult to beat.

3:03 pm: We are out! The green flag was waved and Verizon 200 started!
